BP Oil Disaster Didn’t Hit Tourism Too Hard

In a welcome message to the tourist industry, sun-seeking tourists to Florida won’t be too much deterred by the damage caused by the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill a new poll has revealed.
The poll conducted by travel company Travel Leaders found that 80% of travel company owners in Florida say there has been no impact over autumn on the tourism industry. There were fears that the spill would have caused billions of dollars of damage to the region’s tourism industry as tourists tried to stay clear of the waters. But the estimates may have been dramatically over-estimated according to this new study.
And it looks like the region’s businesses might recover faster than anyone expected.
The BP oil spill was the largest under-sea oil spill in history, starting on April 20th with an explosion on the Horizon drilling rig that released a massive gushing plume of oil from the ocean’s bottom, which pumped an estimated 53,000 barrels of oil into the surrounding waters every day.
While the damage to business may not have been as bad as was first feared. The damage to the area’s marine life, which is one ofthe most diverse on Earth, is still massive and the full extent is yet unknown.
