Scientists Create Synthetic Life!
The first truly artificial life has been created. Craig Venter, the leading scientist in the field of human genome sequencing, and his team has announced that they have created artificial life.
The artificial life is a cell that can reproduce on its own, defining it as alive, but the DNA is entirely programs by a computer. Therefore, the DNA can be programmed to reproduce in any way that they like, paving the way for infinite possibilitites in future.
Ventor imagines that the synthetic cell, nicknamed Sythia by the press, could be used to design cures for cancer, and living organisms that could clean the environment, eat oil from the surface of the sea, and many other possibilities.
There is much controversy around the announcement. Religious groups are upset that Ventor is playing God by creating life. And other concerns are that while Ventor may picture only good with this creation, if it got into the wrong hands it could be used to create a virus, or something very dangerous.
